Power. Roads. Education. Healthcare. Markets. Solar Lighting. Community Infrastructure. Science Education.

By Omotayo Babalola

“The true measure of leadership is not the number of promises made, but the number of lives transformed by purposeful action.”

Across the Osun Central Senatorial District, grassroots development is undergoing another significant transformation as Distinguished Senator Olubiyi Oluwole Fadeyi, popularly known as Ajagunnla, begins a new round of inspections, completions, and flag-offs of constituency projects across the district.

From Ila-Orangun to Osogbo, Ota-Efun to Iree, Otan-Ayegbaju to Ifon-Osun, Oke-Ila to Inisa, and Iragbiji to Ilobu, the projects span critical aspects of everyday life.

They include electricity, roads, education, healthcare, commerce, security, community development and human-capital development.

This latest intervention adds to a growing portfolio of constituency projects associated with Senator Fadeyi since his emergence as the representative of Osun Central in the National Assembly.

For the people, the significance goes beyond the physical structures.

It is about electricity for homes and businesses, roads for accessibility, classrooms for children, laboratories for scientific learning, markets for traders, streetlights for safer communities and community facilities for collective development.

A 7.5MVA POWER TRANSFORMER FOR ILA-ORANGUN

One of the major highlights of the new project cycle is the flag-off of the construction and installation of a 7.5MVA power transformer substation unit in Ila-Orangun.

For a town with growing residential, commercial and institutional activities, reliable electricity remains a critical component of development.

The project is particularly significant against the background of wider efforts to strengthen electricity infrastructure in Ila-Orangun.

The intervention is expected to contribute to improved electricity capacity and create a stronger foundation for economic activities, educational institutions, healthcare facilities and small businesses.

For many residents, the hope is simple: more reliable power and a stronger economic environment.

2KM ACCESS ROAD TO THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH SCIENCES TEACHING HOSPITAL

Healthcare infrastructure requires more than buildings and medical equipment.

It also requires accessibility.

The flag-off of the construction of a 2-kilometre road leading to the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Ila-Orangun, is therefore another major component of the new development programme.

A functional access road will facilitate the movement of patients, healthcare workers, students, visitors, ambulances and essential supplies.

It is an infrastructure project with direct implications for healthcare delivery and the development of the emerging health-education hub in Ila-Orangun.

—

FOUR- BLOCK CLASSROOMS AT OTA-EFUN

At Ota-Efun Community Grammar School, Ota-Efun, Olorunda, work is progressing on the construction of four blocks of classrooms.

The project addresses one of the fundamental requirements for effective learning: a conducive physical environment.

For teachers and students, properly constructed classrooms can provide better conditions for teaching and learning while helping schools accommodate their student population.

—

ANOTHER FOUR-BLOCK CLASSROOM PROJECT AT IREE

Education also receives attention in Iree, Boripe Local Government Area, where four blocks of classrooms are being constructed at Anglican Grammar School, Iree.

The two school projects at Ota-Efun and Iree demonstrate the emphasis being placed on educational infrastructure within the latest constituency intervention programme.

But Senator Fadeyi’s educational agenda goes beyond buildings.

The programme also includes the provision of science laboratory equipment to secondary schools across Osun Central.

—

LIGHTING THE 5KM OTAN-AYEGBAJU–ILA-ORANGUN CORRIDOR

Another major project is the 5-kilometre solar-powered streetlighting project from Otan-Ayegbaju to Ila-Orangun.

The project combines infrastructure with renewable energy technology.

Solar-powered streetlights can provide illumination without depending directly on conventional electricity supply and can contribute to improved visibility along roads and in communities.

For residents and commuters, the expected benefits include improved night-time visibility and greater convenience for movement and commercial activities.

—

OPEN UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY CENTRES: BRINGING EDUCATION CLOSER

The completion of the Open University Community Centre in Ifon-Osun, Orolu, represents another important milestone.

Similarly, the Open University Community Centre in Oke-Ila, Ifedayo, is being completed.

The philosophy behind such facilities is straightforward: bring opportunities for education closer to the people.

For young people, workers and adults seeking further education, community-based learning centres can reduce some of the geographical barriers associated with access to higher education.

They can also become hubs for knowledge, skills acquisition and lifelong learning.

—

BUILDING MARKETS, BUILDING LIVELIHOODS

In Inisa, the construction of two blocks comprising 16 shops is another component of the constituency development programme.

A similar project is underway in Iragbiji, Boripe, with the construction of two blocks of 16 shops.

For communities where petty trading, agriculture, artisanship and small-scale commerce constitute important parts of the local economy, market infrastructure can provide organised spaces for business activity.

The projects therefore have an economic dimension: creating better spaces for people to trade and earn their livelihoods.

—

120 SOLAR STREETLIGHTS FOR OSOGBO

Osogbo, the state capital and a major urban centre in Osun Central, is also receiving attention.

A total of 120 solar-powered streetlights are being purchased and installed in selected streets and areas within Wards 4 and 5 of Osogbo.

The intervention adds to the growing use of solar-powered public lighting as a means of improving visibility and supporting community activities after dark.

—

TWO COMMUNITY TOWN HALLS FOR OSOGBO AND ILOBU

Community development is also reflected in the construction and completion of two community town halls in Osogbo and Ilobu Township.

Town halls remain important grassroots institutions.

They provide spaces where residents can hold meetings, organise social activities, conduct community engagements and discuss issues affecting their communities.

The facilities therefore have both social and civic value.

—

SCIENCE LABORATORIES: INVESTING IN THE FUTURE

Among the projects with perhaps the greatest long-term human-capital implications is the purchase and supply of science laboratory equipment to secondary schools across Osun Central.

In a world increasingly driven by science, technology, engineering and mathematics, students need opportunities to acquire practical knowledge.

Laboratory equipment can help transform science education from purely theoretical instruction into practical learning.

For the secondary-school student who may eventually become a doctor, engineer, scientist, technologist or researcher, a properly equipped laboratory can be the beginning of a journey.

BEYOND PROJECTS: A DEVELOPMENT PHILOSOPHY

What emerges from the spread of these projects is a development pattern that connects different aspects of community life.

Electricity supports business.

Roads support healthcare and commerce.

Classrooms support education.

Laboratories support scientific development.

Markets support livelihoods.

Streetlights support mobility and community life.

Town halls support community organisation.

The projects are therefore interconnected pieces of a larger development puzzle.

Senator Fadeyi’s constituency interventions have previously included educational support, bursary programmes, road infrastructure, electricity projects, solar streetlights, community facilities and empowerment initiatives.

The latest round represents another attempt to extend infrastructure investment to different parts of Osun Central.

—

THE INSPECTION: FROM PAPER TO THE GROUND

Perhaps one of the most important aspects of the current exercise is the physical inspection of projects.

Project inspection provides an opportunity to see what is happening on the ground, assess progress, identify challenges and engage with communities.

For constituency projects to achieve their intended purpose, implementation, quality and completion are as important as announcements.

The inspection exercise consequently provides an avenue for stakeholders to monitor the transition from approved projects to physical infrastructure.

—

THE AJAGUNNLA APPROACH

Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi’s supporters have often associated his political philosophy with grassroots engagement and development.

His traditional title, Ajagunnla Oodua Ti Ile Yoruba, conferred by the Ooni of Ife, has become closely associated with his public identity.

But beyond titles and political affiliations, the most visible evidence of constituency representation remains what communities can physically point to.

A transformer.

A road.

A classroom.

A laboratory.

A market.

A streetlight.

A community centre.

A town hall.

These are the physical manifestations of public representation.

—

OSUN CENTRAL AT A DEVELOPMENT CROSSROADS

As the latest inspection and flag-off programme unfolds, Osun Central is witnessing interventions across several local government areas and communities.

The challenge now is to ensure that every project is delivered according to specification, completed within the appropriate timeframe and maintained for the benefit of present and future generations.

For the people of Osun Central, development is ultimately measured not by ceremonies but by impact.

And as Senator Ajagunnla Olubiyi Fadeyi begins another round of constituency project inspection and flag-off, the central question is no longer simply what is being promised?

It is:

What will these projects mean for the ordinary people of Osun Central?

The answer will be found in the homes receiving better electricity, the children learning in improved classrooms, the patients travelling more easily to healthcare facilities, the traders occupying new shops, the communities illuminated at night, and the young people gaining access to better science education.

That is where infrastructure becomes development.

And that is where constituency representation becomes meaningful to the people.

AJAGUNNLA’S NEW DEVELOPMENT MESSAGE: FROM PROJECTS TO PEOPLE. FROM INFRASTRUCTURE TO IMPACT.
