The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved a fresh round of promotions for 775 senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force, following a nationwide exercise that involved written examinations and oral interviews.
The promotion exercise was concluded on December 17 at the commission’s headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, under the supervision of the PSC Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Hashimu Salihu Argungu.
Among those elevated is Mohammed Usman Gumel, who has been promoted from the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police to Deputy Inspector-General of Police.
The commission also promoted seven Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police. They include Ihebom Chukwuma of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Maxwell Olatokunbo of the K9 unit, Abaniwonda Olufemi of Delta State Command, Alonyenu Francis Idu of Bayelsa State Command, Lawal B. Ayodeji of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, Agene Emmanuel of FCID Kaduna, and Vungmoh S. M. Kwaimo of the Railways.
In addition, 13 Deputy Commissioners of Police, including Dr Ayodeji Babalola, were promoted to the rank of Commissioners of Police, while 30 Assistant Commissioners of Police were promoted to the rank of Commissioners.

Dr Ayodeji Babalola was appointed as an Assistant Superintendent of Police in the NPF in I994. Holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from OAU and a Master’s degree in Personnel Psychology (MPP), MA in Peace and Conflict Studies and a PhD in Peace and Strategic Studies, all from the University of Ibadan. Held many career positions and appointments in the NPF.
He was at various times a DPO in Oyo and Edo States, a Police Public Relations Officer for Oyo State Police Command, Deputy Head, Police Special Fraud Unit, Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, Abuja. He was once on secondment to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
On two occasions, he was a member of the Nigerian Police contingent to the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations.
Dr. Ayodeji Babalola received a Role Model Award of Excellence as a Distinguished Igbomina Man of The Year (2019) from Igbomina Today Publisher.
