Ila-Orangun, the ancient headquarters of the Igbomina people in Osun State, has once again etched its name in gold in the annals of Nigeria’s legal profession as two of its illustrious sons, Ayobamidele Oyekunle Akande, Esq. and Akorede Habeeb Lawal, Esq., emerged among the successful Advocate Applicants shortlisted by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) for the conferment of the highly coveted rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) for the year 2026.

The LPPC, in its official announcement, disclosed that the shortlisted candidates have successfully passed the requisite stages leading to the conferment of the prestigious rank and are now set for the final interview stage. The candidates were grouped into two categories in line with the LPPC Guidelines—Advocate Applicants and Academic Applicants.

To the glory of God Almighty and in service to humanity, Ayobamidele Oyekunle Akande, Esq. and Akorede Habeeb Lawal, Esq., both distinguished sons of Ila-Orangun, made the list of successful Advocate Applicants, bringing immense pride and joy to the people of the historic town.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria rank remains the highest distinction attainable by legal practitioners in Nigeria. It is reserved for lawyers who have demonstrated exceptional advocacy skills, professional excellence, integrity, and remarkable contributions to the development of the legal profession and the administration of justice in the country.

This latest achievement is yet another testament to Ila-Orangun’s growing reputation as a cradle of excellence, particularly in the legal profession. Indeed, the town has continued to produce legal luminaries whose accomplishments resonate far beyond the shores of Osun State.

It is noteworthy that barely two years ago, another illustrious son of Ila-Orangun, Mr Olufemi Oyewole, made history when he attained the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria at the age of 34, becoming the youngest SAN in the country at the time. His remarkable feat inspired many young professionals across Nigeria and further reinforced the town’s legacy of excellence.

Similarly, only a few months ago, His Lordship, Justice Joseph Olubunmi Oyewole, another distinguished son of the soil, was elevated to the Supreme Court of Nigeria, joining the nation’s apex court and adding another shining chapter to Ila-Orangun’s illustrious history.

These milestones speak volumes. They underscore the fact that Ila-Orangun is steadily becoming a reference point in Nigeria’s legal landscape, making significant headlines in both the Bench and the Bar. From producing accomplished advocates to distinguished jurists, the town continues to demonstrate that greatness is not accidental but a product of vision, discipline, and an enduring commitment to excellence.

The emergence of Akande and Lawal on the SAN shortlist is not merely a personal triumph; it is a collective victory for the people of Ila-Orangun, a source of inspiration for the younger generation, and a reaffirmation that the community remains blessed with men and women of uncommon intellect and service.

As the two legal icons prepare for the final stage of the conferment process, the entire Ila-Orangun community stands united in prayers and celebration, confident that the Almighty God, who has brought them thus far, will perfect His work in their lives.

Congratulations to the families of Akande and Lawal. Congratulations to the legal community. Above all, congratulations to the good people of Ila-Orangun on yet another remarkable achievement.

Indeed, Ila-Orangun is not only preserving its rich cultural heritage—it is also building an enviable legacy of excellence in the service of Nigeria and humanity.

Akorede Habeeb Lawal, Es
