Senator Ajagunnla Olubiyi Fadeyi woos Chinese Investors from Mianyang, Sichuan Province to Set up a CNG Plant and Gas Technology Training Hub in Osogbo, Osun Central
On 12th of December 2024, The Senate Committee on Trade and Investment led by Vice Chairman Distinguished Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, welcomed a high-level delegation from the Mianyang Government and Mianyang Economic and Technology Development Zone, led by Mr. Gu Yu, Secretary of the Party Working Committee, Mianyang Economic and Technological Development Zone and Director of the Mianyang Bureau of Commerce.
The visit was a furtherance of discussions initiated during his visit to Mianyang, Sichuan Province in September as part of the Nigerian delegation accompanying President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) on his State visit to China for the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC 2024).
The purpose of this visit was to expand the scope of cooperation between Nigeria and Mianyang in several strategic sectors, including:
- Industrial Manufacturing for CNG and Gas Equipment:l
- Infrastructure Development
- Energy:
- Science and Technology Industrial Park
- Technology Transfer and Skills Training.
This visit highlights China’s commitment to implementing the $50billion investment in Africa as announced during FOCAC 2024 to develop the continent’s industrial capacity. It also underscores the shared vision between Nigeria and China to deepen bilateral ties through practical, high-impact projects.
The delegation from Mianyang engaged with other members of the Senate’s standing Committees, Senator Aminu Abbass, Chairman Senate Committee on Science and Technology, Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan, Chairman of Senate Committee on Local Content, Senator Ede Dafinone and Senator Osita Ngwe, Sen Adeniyi Adegbenmire and Senator Aniekan Bassey members Senate Committee on Trade and Investment.
The Chinese delegation reaffirmed their willingness to establish a strong and mutually beneficial partnership and commended the Nigerian President, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on setting up the Nigeria-China strategic Partnership Office led by Mr Joseph Tegbe as a sign of Nigeria’s dedication to actualising the FOCAC goals . The discussions focused on aligning Mianyang’s technical expertise with Nigeria’s industrialization goals, particularly under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu’s administration.
This visit serves as a significant milestone in advancing Nigeria-China relations and further positions Nigeria as a key hub for industrialisation and technology-driven growth in Africa. The Senate Committee on Trade and Investment remains committed to fostering partnerships that accelerate Nigeria’s economic development and ensure tangible benefits for its citizens.
