The Distinguished Senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Senator Ajagunnla Olubiyi Fadeyi, a member of the Senate Committee on Power, has taken a bold step toward ending the prolonged electricity crisis in Ila-Orangun. He paid a crucial visit to the Managing Director of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) in Ibadan to follow up on the repairs of the town’s faulty 7.5 mVA Transformer, which has left residents in total darkness for over two months.
The transformer, which was moved to Lagos for repairs, has been the source of hardship for households, businesses, and institutions in Ila-Orangun. During the visit, the IBEDC MD assured the Senator that the engineer in charge of the repair had promised to return the equipment in the coming days. He commended Senator Fadeyi for his proactive leadership and expressed gratitude for the Senator’s willingness to provide financial support to facilitate the repairs and logistics.
“We appreciate Senator Fadeyi’s commitment to his people and his generous offer to assist IBEDC (if need be) with resources to hasten the repair process,” the MD stated.
In a firm message to his constituents, Senator Fadeyi warned residents of Ila-Orangun not to give money to any individual or group soliciting funds for the repair or purchase of a new transformer.
“The people of Ila-Orangun should not contribute any money to anyone. The situation is being handled at the appropriate levels. I will not allow anyone to take advantage of the community’s hardship,” the Senator emphasised.
In addition to addressing the transformer issue, Senator Fadeyi is also actively pursuing a long-term solution to the region’s power challenges. As earlier reported, he is working closely with the Federal Ministry of Power on the 123 MVA Substation project, a landmark infrastructure initiative that is expected to significantly boost electricity supply to Ila-Orangun and surrounding communities.
According to officials from the Federal Ministry of Power, the installation of the substation is a major engineering project that will span 14 months from commencement. Senator Fadeyi reaffirmed his commitment to seeing the project through to completion, describing it as “a legacy investment in the future of Osun Central.”
As the people of Ila-Orangun anticipate the return of their repaired transformer and look forward to the coming of the substation, Senator Fadeyi’s dual-track approach — immediate relief and long-term solutions — is being widely praised as a model of responsive and visionary representation.
