The Osun State Governor, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola played host to the Technical Team from the Federal Ministry of Education and National Universities Commission, NUC who were in Osun State to fast track the process for the take off of the newly established University of Health Sciences, FUHES, Ila-Orangun. The leader of the team, Hajia Rakiya Ilyasu informed Oyetola of the Federal Government readiness to ensure that the institution takes off by next academic session in September.
Oyetola affirmed that the State Government was fully prepared to support the efforts of the Federal Government to actualize the mission and vision of establishing the university.
“As a Government, to demonstrate our commitment to this laudable project, we have given approval for the land and the Survey process will soon be completed.
“To ensure the institution takes off this September, we have also approved for use part of the College of Education in lla, as a temporary site and to the best of my knowledge, no request from the institution has been turned down by us.
“As you are all aware, Osun is noted for award-winning endeavours and excellence in numerous sectors, including the health sector. I assure you that the Federal University of Health Sciences, lla Orangun, is in safe hands and will naturally flow into excellence for which it is founded upon”, Oyetola emphasized.
The Leader of the Technical Team who is also The Director of University Education at The Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja, Hajia Rakiya IIyasu, said the essence of the visit to Osun was to evaluate the level of preparation towards the successful take-off of the University.
IIyasu described the decision of the Federal Government to establish the new universities as a noble intent to reduce medical tourism and lay a solid foundation for building national preparedness and resilience in anticipation of future challenges in the health sector.
Other members of the team included Mr. Charles Owolabi from Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja and the trio of Mr.Ashafa Ladan, Engr Abraham Chundusu and Mallam Kabir Abdullahi all from National Universities Commission, NUC, Abuja.
At the event was the Deputy Governor of Osun State Mr. Benedict O. Alabi while the Asiwaju of Ila-Orangun and former Governor of Osun State, Chief (Dr.) Adebisi Akande was ably represented by a University Don, Prof. Oluwole Atoyebi, rwh was former Provost, College of Medicine, University of Lagos; former Registrar, Post Graduate College of Medical School and former Chairman, LAUTECH (now UNIOSUN) Teaching Hospital, Osogbo.
Also, the pioneer Management Team of FUHES Ila-Orangun led by its Vice Chancellor, Prof. Akeem Lasisi were among others dignitaries.
